OK, what to do? (CCW Question)
I got this from the USCCA newsletter and it got me thinking. What would you do in the situation below??
Scenario: You are in your typical CCW posture and getting gas at a well-lit service station in a pretty good neighborhood in your town/city. While filling up, you notice a man 30 yards away approaching you with "a crazed look in his eyes" and his eyes are locked on you. Physically he is taller, more muscled and quite a bit younger than you...at 10 yards you notice his hands are balled into fists and he adopts a very aggressive posture while walking towards you. You do not see a weapon. You initiate verbal commands and blade yourself/weapon while moving off the x at an oblique angle to his direction of travel. he does not respond to your commands and changes directions to intercept you. What next...? |

many might feel differently but I would take the first strike in this situation I.E. I would hit him first. If its well lit the security camera assuming they have a working one which most do will capture the event I would argue that given the mans posture and unmistakable attempt to intercept me when I tried to get away that a threat was immenent ie he was going to strike me. I would not draw or fire for a fear of gas fumes igniting. If verbal commands to stay away or whatever fail I would strike him first however I thought I could end the situation as fast as possible. just my take on it.

If they looked like they were going to attack me, I would verbally warn them and if they didn't respond I would draw my weapon and tell them to back off.

Keep the car between me and him and make enuf noise to get a lot of witnesses. I would not try to strike him with anything but a 180 gr JHP from my 40sc if he gets around to the same side of the car as me. Rmember, in this hypothetical, he is bigger than me and possibly on some kind of drug.

seriously though, if you are moving away and trying to diffuse the situation you are within your rights to shoot. This is not someone that I would want to test my fighting skills against.
