I didn't know they actually made this. I have been making them out of steel plate from home depot and installing them behind the door trim in high crime apartments that we used to provide the property management and maintenance on.

I know that the home made ones I installed caused the police to tell me that what ever I installed caused them to slow down on their entry into one of our units during a drug raid.

Only one thing I would suggest is when installing this, use LONG screws, preferably deck screws, as their tuffer then drywall screws.

I can't see putting a few $100 into door security when you have windows all over the house that can be entered using a brick.

I have this. For $20 it does the job.

Dual Function Door Security Bar

I always pre-drill and impact 4" hardened screws at the bolts and hinges on all of my doors. I thought about pulling the door and going with galvanized plate steel around the door but that is a ton of work and many more dollars.

Thanks. I have looked at those but declined. As for the brick through glass it will obviously make a ton of noise. I will hear that plus the glass break detectors will set off the alarm.

Amongst other things to deter a break-in, I just added a security door and I don't think anyone will be getting through it uninvited. $75 @ HD.

I don't do any good. I did try them on one of my rentals. All the BG did was use a cordless saws-all and cut a big @ss hole in the door.

Great thread.

What do you use for sliding doors for french patio doors? I have reinforced dead bolts and 3" screws on the other entrances, but my weak point in my rear patio doors.

I do have 2 labs to entertain new univited guests until the calvary arrives.

There are bolts that slide to lock the top or bottom of the door. Some doors have them installed in the door itself. I have also seen standard type deadbolts used at the top and bottom as well. The best bet with glass is too have a glass break detector.

My OP was/is to deter front door kick ins which accounts for most of the break ins.
