Practicing at the range - Mozambique/AFD
Hi,
The other day I was at the range practicing the mozambique technique as well as automatic failure drills. I was taught to shoot (years ago) by military shooters, and this is what I was always taught to do. There are lots of reasons for it, I believe lots (if not most) of LE/military practice in this fashion. That said, I was getting some "odd" looks from people, and a few questions if I was LE. I'm practicing for a few reasons: #1 - Fun. I love shooting, and it's something "different" than just shooting holes in the center ring of a normal target over and over. I feel it's really increasing my speed to correct sight picture/aimed shot. I intend on competing in IDPA so this is good. #2 - Self defense. If you're in a situation where your life (or family's life) is in immediate danger, you want to stop the threat. Sometimes a few shots in the chest might fail, it's happened before and could happen again. CNS is the next best thing to target to stop a threat to your life. So, is there any issue w/ me practicing/drilling in this way? I don't mind ignoring the odd looks and LE questions, but I also don't want to attract attention of actual LE and get myself in hot water for something. I've been through the GA laws and didn't see anything prohibiting practice of this sort, but I'm also not a lawyer. In terms of using this method in SD, if you're truly in a situation where shooting is your only option to protect your/family's life, I would think you'd be well justified in using these methods. Thanks for your input, David |

Hi, sorry - this will be my first/last "bump". This is just a relatively important topic for me, as I want to make sure I'm not doing something "in the wrong" so to speak.
I appreciate any insight/advice greatly, David |

I know loads of people who also practice this way. It would not seem out of the ordinary to me to see happening next to me.

I practice this way all the time at the range. Sometimes when the range if full they frown on drawing from the holster so i do what I can. When I'm home in Texas I get to shoot on private property so I can practice my draws and what ever else I want to.

Come to WV and shoot. You could practice mozambique with a bazooka and no one would give a rat's ass.
