Help a flashlight noob

Want to buy a flashlight for the home, and possibly cars.

I have a 5 D cell Mag-Lite that is nice... It puts out a lot of light and it is useful for inflicting blunt force trauma if necessary. I am on my original set of batteries after nearly a year, although I don't use it all that often.

Smaller lights appeal to me as well, particularly since my wife will be using it a lot. I want something with decent light output but also good battery life. Thus I am considering LED lights from Pelican etc.

I am not sure how to convert candlepower into lumens. Some mfgs list in candlepower, some list in lumens.

Any advice or opinions welcome.

do a google search for "surefire" and/or "streamlight". both are great companies with great products, but for my money surefire does it best. how you can get an LED to shine that bright is amazing. plus they just feel awesome in your hand. I carry an E2D every day. even where knives and guns are not allowed, i can take my surefire and if really necessary, protect myself by shining it in the BG's face or using it as a blunt weapon or if I can learn the style, like a kubotan. what is the security person going to say? "no you cannot take your flashlight on the plane sir."

Yessir. I have looked at Surefire and own a G2. I was also looking at Streamlight's Task Lights because of their LED/Xenon combo. The Pelican M6 looks good too although it is smaller. Still looking at Mag-Lite as well.

Its the EVIL Michael Knight! I can't remember his name. It was a toss-up between him and this:

But I thought the EVIL Michael Knight was much cooler (and I remember he was really EVIL too)

thought it was Garth. Loved the truck, and while I love f-bodies, thought the car was ultra cheese.

I've got a pelican mightylight magnum 2AA that i've had for years. Very Durable and waterproof. Has a keyring hole and a pocket clip. I wear it on my tool pouch 7 days a week, then my wife takes it to her evening night job every night. Puts out 8000 candlepower with reg batteries, a little more with top shelf batteries. You can get it on line at galls.com for about 19$ plus shipping, or in person at Graingers industrial supply house.

7500 candle power equals 80 lumens, according to Galls supply catalog.
