Question Safety Concern: Carrying IWB @ 1:00

I'm new to concealed carry and trying to figure out the right holster (IWB or OWB) and position to carry where my XD40SC is concealed and accessible.

I was thinking about IWB @ 1:00 (I have a Don Hume IWB holster) and the firearm safety rule "Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy". Carrying in this fashion violates this rule - when I walk, sit, and even stand, the muzzle will be covering my body.

Do any of you folks carry in this manner (IWB @ 1:00) and have this safety concern?

It crosses my mind everyday, At 1clock the twig and berries wouldent know what hit it . I carry at about 2:30 and when I sit the muzzle is cramed into my thigh, you can just make shure the gun is clean, well maintained and allways proform saftey checks. I have been carring this way for over a year and the fear of equipment failure deminishes every day.

i carry my Kel Tec P3AT at 1 oclock and have no worries because the trigger pull is so long and heavy. other wise, anything else is too long and jams into my leg too much for comfort

Your gun won't fire without something pulling the trigger right ?

Keep that in mind and use a quality holster that covers the trigger area and you can put your concerns to rest pretty quickly.

I consider that rule of never point the gun at anything not willing to be destroyed to apply when I am handling a firearm outside of a holster that covers the trigger area.

I know most of you probably won't believe me, but shooting yourself in the thigh is much worse (medically) than shooting yourself in the junk. Unless you get incredibly lucky, a thigh shot can kill you in minutes.

This is one reason I like the XD over say a Glock...if for some reason I am carrying using my Smartcarry (which isn't really that often these days), the grip safety gives a little bit of piece of mind. I always holster with my thumb on the back of the slide leaving the grip safety un-depressed.

Yeah, you have your Femoral Artery for the first half of your thigh, which is about 1/3" in diameter in most men, your deep femoral, which is about 1/2" diameter, your deep femoral vein, which is about 3/4", and your great saphenous vein, which is about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

If you manage to miss all of that, the sciatic nerve runs down the back of your thigh and is initially about the size of your first and second finger held up next to each other.

All sorts of fun stuff to hit down there.
