Got my SKS have some questions
Well after alot of looking around i finaly found one that blew me away.
I was at a local sporting goods store talking to someone in the guns about sks's and he was giving me the run down had one there that was returned and back for sale, it was originaly a new one and someone took it home couldn't get it working i guess they had the gas switch in the wrong spot and he said it was 100% and had it for 149.... it was clean and not bad looking but then the other guy was like hey we have one in the new section thats perfect brand new ready to go and said it had a perfect hard wood oak stock. so he brings over this 59/66 thats perfect.... i guess before they get it some factory check everything over on them and does some amazing job mounting the supressor on them and check them over. Then he tells me he tears them down and goes through the entire gun cleans them 100% and oils them and they do some work to clean the stocks. So its perfect.... only problem is its 245 dollars.... so i told him there was no way i could do that and he goes on to tell me he personaly has a days work in that gun getting it cleaned up and everything. I told him i would think about it and left to goto a store down the street. I come back about a hour later and talk to another guy working there who said the older guy i was talking to had ordered that gun for himself and didn't buy it because someone traded in a M1 garand he wanted. So i told them i would do it for 200 bucks, he got me out the door for 210 dollars and threw in a couple things . He also told me that if i bought it and had any problems ever i could bring it in and they repair or fix anything wrong or if i wanted anyhting after market installed they would do it for free... Nice guys dropped the price like 45 dollars so i figured what the heck. Anyways i think it was worth the extra money for the peice of mind and saving me probably a week or two od messing around with it cleaning it. So here are the questions What is a good synthetic stock for it ? what is a good 25-55 rnd magazine conversion for it and what is a good brand of ammo is wolf any good ? And how was my deal..... bad deal worth it.... etc? Brand new not a mark on it never fired perfect sks.... no rust or not even any marks in the blueing.

You can buy hi-cap detachable mags for it but you better not have a bayonet or flash supressor mounted on it then as I think it violates a BATF rule. I am not usre how good the detacheable mags are. I liked my SKS stock when I had it. Not sure about any polymer stocks either as I used the fine Russian wood stocks mine came with. As far as ammo, Wolf will do just fine, I would say you can't get better actualy. This is the stuff the gun was designed to run on. I have personaly put a case of Wolf down rnage of an SKS without any problems. Just do not expect 1/2 MOA accuracy with this gun, it is closer to 8 MOA, depending on shooter and other variables.

So whats the take on the price was it worth the extra 50-60 dollars to get one that someone had professionaly torn down and cleaned?
Also I guess the muzzel break wasen't factory either the guy working there told me there came from a special importer that actually did work on the guns before shipping. So after doing a little research i found this... Our Yugo has a brand new muzzle brake where the grenade launcher used to be. Don’t accept cheap imitations, ours are no hatchet job with exposed threads on the barrel like others. Our Yugo M59/66 custom compensator is head and shoulders above the competition. The only problem i see with this gun is i am having a hard time taking it to shoot it looks so good. I have shown a couple people so far and everyone keeps asking me if this is a gun i am going to shoot. anyways here is the last question i have a local ammo store that had belguim ammo for 24 dollars per 200 for non corosive 124g brass shelled ammo.... someone take a look tell me if its any good. http://ammunitionstore.com/Images/Ammo/A002.19.htm www.ammunitionstore.com is the site that was just one ad Also i have heard the wolf has a coating that chips off and makes a mess out of the inside of the gun.??? any truth to this ?

So you paid extra for a good cleanup job and a nice stock but then you want to replace the stock with a synthetic?
Anyhow, before you get too excited about modifying it, I suggest you read this stuff. |

Wolf ammo works just fine! It does what is supposed to do and that is go "BANG". I just got 500 rounds of it at Cabelas this weekend. Only thing that sucks about Wolf is that is STINKS! As far as cleaning it, if I were you I would tear it down and clean it again. I got mine 2 weeks ago already cleaned and it still had a little cosmo on it. As far as a synthetic stock, Why? I thought about this also but decided against it cause it shoots just fine now (and the gun looks the way it was made to look). Not saying that you shouldn't change it but I would think long and hard about it!
Have fun and make sure you read up on the laws with the SKS (if you wanna mod it you have to be careful of what you do so it stays legal). Shoot safe!!!

I bought the 20 and 30 round magazines from cabelas. No problems with them so far after about 1000 rounds. Watch out for the cheap made ones I hear a lot of people get jams with them. |
