Marines don't wear unit patches. And it's really hard to tell if those are Marpats or not. But it is being reported as a Marine.

To me is sounds like the yelping from the puppy was edited in later. It just doesn't sound right. I think the dog was dead. Live or dead though, I am not going to judge what our troops do. They go through more in a week then we do in a lifetime, and we shouldn't judge the actions of someone living under that kind of stress.

Now before anyone gets upset, I really like dogs and I have owned plenty of them. My current dog is a really fun little guy and I'd be pretty upset if I saw anyone mistreat him.

But consider this. How many people would be upset if that Soldier was throwing a fish off a cliff? Or a rat? How about a cuddly skunk?

Once you get past the fact that its cute and cuddly, it's still just another animal that was not a pet and would be dinner in many of the countries in the world.

Western culture considers that eating a dog is cruel, barbaric and discusting (not illegal, though), but we have no problem eating all other sorts of animals, as long as they are not called pets.

But for the vast majority of people on earth, cultural values are very different. Dog meat is considered a delicacy in some asian cultures (including China, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Mayanmar), and indeed cooked dog meat is very tasty and protein rich. Maybe you should try it some day (if you are not vegetarian).

By the way, I think if westerners had to slaughter the animal themself each time they want to eat meat, there would be a lot more vegetarians! Most people would not even want to kill a chicken!

In Vietnamese, "Thịt chó" means dog meat (Thịt = meat, chó = dog), and you see this sign on countless restaurants and shops around the country. In many regions, it is much more common to find dog meat than beef on the market.

I havenn't been to Iraq yet (E3 USMC) But I have a question then a few comments. Question for those that have been to Iraq, would your kevlar's cover stay clearer than your uniform? The only discernable MARPAT in the video is the kevlar shells.

My company was the only (their words not mine, they were given this order) company not allowed to shoot dogs due to giving away positions. I believe all of them killed dogs while they were there. A friend of mine actually talked about it 4 weeks ago "one tore a hole in my boot, another bit into my M16" he also stabbed one with his KA-Bar. Lots of dogs out there and they have to die frequently. They give away your position and that can get you killed, or they can try to bite you because we don't throw rocks at them like they do in Mexico automatically.

The video was foolish, the videos from Guantanamo Bay were foolish, the videos we make cause more of our guys to die over there. However if the Iraqi's saw this particular one I don't think they would be incited by it, just PETA which is against our troops already will get up in arms about it.

No problem killing dogs, I'm sure I'll do it when I'm there, but that treatment of what your doing, the stupidity, the filming, thats just like handing the enemy your M16.
