For most people, including me, it is. The longer sight radius makes a difference in my opinion. A 5" barrel is typically a little more length than some people can carry comfortably. I have a Tactical for IDPA and USPSA competition and a Service for home defense and carry.

You'll get a lot of different opinions on this topic. I use a 9mm at the range (less recoil) and a .45ACP for carry and home defense (more stopping power). My son has the .40S&W and I like that alot too.

I think it is, but not really in a bad way. I find it faster to get back on target with both the 9mm and the .45ACP than the .40S&W.
