It's alright, but it's not high on my list. I didn't know that there were Southern Varieties.

Evidently the Arizona Department of Revenue decided to audit our 2002 tax returns (they have nothing better to do, I guess), and found we supposedly made a contribution of $100 to the Clean Elections Fund here in AZ, and they would like to have copies of the check we used to pay it. After five years. And I don't even remember making a contribution to this organization. Ugh....government. Any thoughts?

Do you still bank where you did back then? Maybe check with them...I know my checks come back scanned...I don't get the actual check back.

Otherwise, maybe just say, ahh hell, let it go...of course that'll probably cause them to change what your return would have been and then charge you back taxes, penalties, etc.

I'm going to check with the bank, but I think this may just come down to seeing what the refigured amount would be on the return. I don't even know if there actually is a check to inquire about because I don't remember deciding to make a contribution. Whatever.....life's too short.

Yeah...many moons ago...I owed them just under $1000 and arranged a payment schedule. Somehow I ended up still owing them around $100 but did not realize it. Well, five years pass and I get a letter from my friends at the IRS telling me I owed them around $600.

Apparently they have a threshold of what they tell folks they still owe and until it passes something like $500, they don't take the time to tell you.

I ended up working out a deal where I owed a couple hundred, but damn! They can be tough.

Good luck!

IRS...

I'm not a fan of them... national sales tax would be the key. Not penalized for making money, but all internet sales in the country would be taxed. Also the wealthy that buy more will get taxed more and the lower income that buy less will be taxed less.

Not perfect and it would still require some sort of amnesty/help for those below a certain bracket, but I think it's better than the system now.

The problem is that the country is so used to the IRS (auditors, tax attorneys, CPAs, TurboTax, H&R Block, etc....) it would be really hard to get rid of the income tax or make serious reforms to the tax code. It's a good mirror of government power, let them have some and they won't want to give it up.
