Anybody know what a "hole-hawg" is??? It's a large, large right angle drill motor for confined spaces that can easily turn a 1" auger or a 5" circle saw.

Well today I was using one, standing on a 3 step, step ladder, on a raised platform in a closet, drilling a 4 1/2"hole horizontally thru a floor joist above a brick wall in a house built in 1863. Anything built back then used real wood that is real hard.

So I am drilling away, wearing my gloves and safety glasses, when the drill bit decides to stop turning in the wood. This causes the drill motor to start rotating, thus making my hand rotate with the drill motor body, right into the 3 inch thick, ruff hewn floor joist.

Smashed my hand.
Smashed my hand so hard as to make the blood squirt out of it on the walls and drill.
Then I couldn't get my hand out until I, with the same hand turned the motor switch into reverse and gave the switch a tap, thus releaseing the hand.

The hand had soo much blood on it that I couldn't see what was actually damaged.

Turned out it was the little finger that was smashed. gonna loose the nail. Broke the little finger in two places.

This happened at 3pm today.
It's now 9:30, and the thing is still bleeding.

Damm, it hurts.

I was borrowing the drill bit/hole saw. The thing was duller then snot. Tomrrow I go get my own drill bit/hole saws.

Sorry to hear that tec. Hope you heal up fast. Don't worry. It will stop bleeding.

I hope they gave you a splint, right?

Splint, vicoden (sp), and a antibiotic.

The whole hand is throbbing.

sorta afraid to take the vicoden, Gotta be up early to install 12 each of toilets, sinks, vanities, disposals, faucets.

Gonna be a painfull day.
Did i mention it was my right hand, and, that I am right handed. Can't even dig into my pants to take a leak with this split on.

Yeah that sucks. I had to go through some similar stuff when I took a few layers off my ring and pinky finger.

Got two fingers and a thumb broken in a Ford Fairlane door when I was a kid (guess I am still a kid by some people's reckoning); hand wounds are the worst, except for maybe scalp wounds and Brown Recluse spider bites. Come to think of it, how in the hell am I still alive???

I'm sorry to hear about your hand. Hope you feel better, avoid overdoing it if possible.

If you figured out a way to type with a smashed finger then you'll be fine for the most part.

mornin all.

Thanks for the kind words.
I can still type, if I type like a priss, with my pnky sticking out. Funny thing is while i am obviously sticking the smashed one out for good reason, I am also sticking the other hands pinky out, like a priss.
