I will be staying on the road for a while with it until I'm comfortable, so I'm thinking I won't need all the full protection off road gear to get started. I'd get myself a jacket and helmet at a minimum.

That's not bad. Cheaper than what I put on the BMW.

Helmet, gloves, jacket, and hard soled boots. Are the necessities.

If you don't have anything going on tomorrow, watch the Flyers/Canadiens game...it's going to be a war and there will be blood. There was a dirty cheap shot sucker punch at the end of the game by one of the Montreal players and the next two games are in Philly.

Gloves were on the list in my head, didn't make it to the fingers. I wear boots most of the time as it is. I don't think I'll be wearing shorts on the bike. I'll probably bring stuff in a pack to change if I want.

I can't wait for that hockey game tomorrow night. Flyers should be dressing their big boys who like to throw the fists.

I actually recommended a pair of riding boots, I wear Joe Rocket Meteor boots, I love them.

What's the difference between those and a solid leather boot that comes up over the ankle? What's the advantage?

They have internal rigid frame to protect your ankles, plus a nice shift pad on top of your foot.
