I want it for ease of cleaning and reliability. I want to know I don't absolutely have to clean it every single time no matter what. I'm thinking more down the road in a SHTF situation that it have something I won't have to worry about.

Well if you want one, then get one!

I am sure you still need to clean it often, just not as often.
I have not tried to see how many rounds I put threw my AR without cleaning to see when it starts thowing a fit. I do not shoot it all that much anyway, darn ammo prices. I'm saving all my brass and will start reloading soon.

I have 1200 pieces of .45 acp brass saved up for that reason.

With the piston ARs, all you really have to do to clean is the barrel.

I guess you could clean the gas block if you wanted to, but you don't have the BCG and everything in the receiver to clean.

Are talking a real piston upper or one of the conversion kits?
