Home Depot was the worst. I stayed there 5 years, only because at that time, I was making decent loot, I left there making 12.95 an hour. However, they worked every last bit of life out of you. If you had to 'close' you couldnt leave until your dept was ready for opening the next day. that means if you work a 3pm-12am shift, which was the closing shift, you may BE ALLOWED to leave around 230, 3am. AND exptected to be back at 7am for your morning shift.. which they did alot.
lumber especially wasnt easy to close, customers would search for the holy grail of all 2X4's. if it had a knot, it was thrown on the floor to search for a beter,,. dont people know knots are from branches? ever see a branchless Tree? i went off on quiete a few different customers that would stack wood all over the floor...i could understand bowed, warped lumber, but some people just deserved slaps... good bennies though, 401k, stock purchase plans, good medical/dental. but, also like a sweat shop.. they could care less about the well being of there employees. ok, that was venting, i feel better. sorry for anyone who didnt appreciate reading that. |

So Basically if I left CWC for Home Depot I would have been in the same Hades, but with more pay and benefits. Our home depot here gets their wood from banana trees I think. It's all bowed and warped.

lol,.,,, yea you made a good choice. your expierence at CWC brought back memories of unloading insulation trucks, and lumber flatbeds, yuck. granted we have forklifts, but insulation had to be hand packed in the overhead...
I think the prob with HD lumber is the fact its taken out of its natural element (outdoors) and stored in a wharehouse with big heating vents blowing hot air while the overstock is in the overhead close to the cieling,.. by the time you downstock it and put on shelf for purchase, the damage had been done...the center of the bundle was always the best. all depends on when you go. |

one time, we unpacked LUAN, a wood from indonesia, or south america... when we unwrapped the plastic, TWO GIANT BLACK AND RED STRIPED TURANTULAS came darting at us...im not going to lie to anyone, i screamed like a ole lady. once they landed though we had plenty fun with a lighter and some flammable stuff we got off the plumbing shelves...

LOL. We had some little termite looking bugs come in on a shipment of wreaths once. I think they made a nest in one of the boxes, because there were thousands of them. We did have a truck come in late once and I had to stay behind to unload it. It hit a low over pass (in the rain) and ripped the whole top of the trailer off. When it got there everything was soaked and we had to unload the wet soggy boxes while getting wet and soggy ourselves. I volunteered to stay behind for that one though. I wanted to see the destroyed trailor

Speaking of work I actually have something to do now. I have to go locate my fiber optic line. Tough work there

Fender_bender: No, I'm not on Flickr. I kind of don't like having my work plastered on a majorly public site like that (and I'm not a big fan of yahoo-anything). I'm just an "amateur" digital photographer who likes taking pictures of stuff. I'll post some of my pictures on here (XDtalk), like I have done with my past trail rides, or maybe my personal website, but that's it. It's not like I'm a professional and I want to get my work "out there" so others can see it and buy it....
ryan: Well, assuming it stays cold until my ride, I'll definitely take a picture of it. Now, it's not TOTALLY frozen. There is still running water going over it (it's a creek after all). And it's not a huge waterfall (maybe 8 feet?? - Big for around here though). But it looks crazy with all the ice going up the wall, and a huge ice patch at the bottom. It looks quite beautiful with the snowy frozen patches meandering along the creek, too. I've never used a digital camera out in this kind of cold for an extended period of time, so it'll be interesting to see how/if the pictures turn out. If I take pictures, I'll definitely put them in my album here and share with my XDtalk family. And my downloads are going slow. I'm downloading 3 zip files at a time (250 MB each), and getting about 25-30 kb/sec each out of the T1. Plus I'm listening to internet radio, too. So download speed is NOT at an optimal number right now. I started these downloads about an hour ago, and they're only 1/3 of the way done. Ugh!!!
