Congratulations to you and your wife! I was told by an old friend something I have found to be spot on:

"Having a baby will not change your life more than you imagine... having a baby will change your life more than you CAN imagine!"

Once the shock and excitement of the delivery wear off, you will find yourself making much longer range plans. Before our daughter came long, long range to us meant a month or two away... six months max. After our daughter, long range now meant years... you start thinking of saving for college... you get/add life insurance for yourself and your wife... you find you even start taking better care of yourselves, because you both want to be around to raise your child.

You are in for the ride of a lifetime... nothing will give you greater satisfaction when things go well, or hurt as much when they go badly. It is truly amazing, terrible and wonderful. Good luck.

I'm a bit late to this thread beardman, but I could not be happier for both of you. I remember how I felt when I got the news from my wife.
But I sure hope the youngin' takes after the better half!
