The Loki J528 motor is about $50.00

The motors up in the M and the N range are about $300.00 a shot. The reason I stay in the slightly smaller class.

Ok. I watched this video a couple of times. Does that rocket make a sonic boom?

You say 4000 feet. In less than one second. From a standing start. So that sucker is really hauling.

Man does that bring back memories! I built and flew many Estes rockets like the goblin, martian lander, saturn V, and a few multi-stage...I miss those days. Does anyone watch Master Blasters?
Estes had the solid fuel engines and I was trying to think of the other company that sold the liquid fuel engines.

Watch the video again. It takes 9 seconds to reach apogee from the ground. There definitely are some rockets in the club that surpass speed of sound. The reason members use fiberglass and carbon fiber for construction.

You got me there. It is 9 seconds. And my math skills sucked last evening. Tired as hell.

But 4000 feet in 9 seconds is awesome. That thing moves like a scalded cat.

It wasn't by design but on this particular rocket the fins were slightly warped when it was still in kit form. I done my best to steam them straight but upon the first flight we all could here a loud whistle during ascent. It actually sounds really cool. In the video it sounds more like a screaming sound but awesome all the same.
