Around 40,000 prostitutes expected for World Cup

Around 40,000 prostitutes will offer their services to football fans at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Supporters from across the globe will flock to watch their respective teams in action at the World Cup, running from June 9 to July 9, offering a bigger market for prostitutes to exploit.

"It goes without saying that the World Cup is a great opportunity to make money," said Katharina Cetin, an official at the Hydra prostitute advice centre in Berlin.

Cologne and Dortmund, two of the host cities for the World Cup, have even erected a number of wooden 'sex huts' for the fooball showpiece with condoms and showers at hand.

The idea is to keep the prostitutes and their clients away from public places and Berlin is considering following suit.

"It is better than having the couples in public areas," explained Dirk Lamprecht, a member of the administrative council in Berlin.

Prostitution was legalised in Germany in 2001 but only in designated areas.

Even though I despise soccer this might convince me to make the trip if I had the funds

Prostitution was legalized in Germany long before 2001. I don't know that it was ever illegal.

Outside of Vogelweh Air Base in Germany prostitutes have motor homes parked alongside the road. They have sex huts on wheels! (No, I never stopped).

And then there's "The Wall" in Munich. Walk behind that wall and there is five stories of women hanging it out the windows. It was legal back in 1975.
Come to think of it I told Mrtuffpaws about "The Wall" as he was going to Germany. Haven't heard from him since. Makes ya kinda wonder.

OEF, I think you have Munich confused with Nurenburg. You walk out of the Bahnhoff and there it is. Also, don't forget that Hamburg has the 2nd largest "Red Light" district in europe (Amsterdam being the largest).

I've never been to Nurenburg. I have been to Munich.

I guess they both have their own "Wall" then. When I was stationed there in the early 90s when you said you were going to the wall it was understood that you meant Nurenburg.

The person who carries more than 1 gun is not paranoid but prepared.
