i love my xd tactical, but i fire my g19 better than i shoot my xd9

p.s. what they dont say in any of these articles, is that even with broken frame rails the guns will continue to fire. I have seen it with my own eyes as well as seen stories on glocktalk. People usually notice the cracked/broken frame rail when they go home to clean it and say that it felt fine while shooting.

You are correct. The locking block is the steel "insert" and that is what the above mentioned post meant. There is not steel molded into the frame itself. With the XD you get steel guide rails at the front and polymer guides at the back. The Glock doesn't have this setup. All the guide rails are polymer in a Glock.
The Glock has all steel guide rails.
