powder measure

I'm thinking about getting a powder measure. What do you guys recommend? This will be for 22-250.

I have a Redding #3 that I like. It is a very consistant, reliable measure. The Lyman #55 is also a good choice. The Lee Perfect Powder Measure looks OK if you are on a budget (~$20.00). the Redding is about $100 and the Lyman is about $75 the offerings from RCBS, Hornaday, etc all should be good. You have to check your charges with a scale when using a powder measure.

Ya I believe you check the first round to get it right then every tenth round to make sure everything is measuring correctly. Got my Pact electronic scale for that. I think I been a good boy with my credit credit so I may head over to Bass Pro shop and check out some prices.

So I went to Bass pro shop to check on powder measures. As usual, out of stock. They must lose millions of dollars a year being out of stock. Talked to a employee and she said oh ya customers are always telling us we are out of stock. Corporate, what a bunch of losers.

I glare at employees when thay say this crap. Do they realize what they are telling you? They are telling you that either 1) they are crappy employees that haven't passed on the message that they need to up their orders, or that 2) they work for a crappy company that doesn't have enough cash to order enough product to keep in stock. Being as it's Bass Pro Shops, I'd guess option 1. They ought to offer to let you pay for the item, and ship it to you at no cost. Galyans used to do that, before that Dick bought them out and screwed them up.

I would say the employee was just being truthful. I bet BPS orders maybe once a month and only once a month at best. If some of the product they order is all sold in the first week after they receive that shipment then they leave the shelf empty until the next monthly order arrives. They probably save $1000's in shipping costs that way. Unfortunately it probably costs them millions in lost sales.

But my point is, someone is still dropping the ball. If they sell out in the first week, they need to order 2-3x as many when they place their monthly order. If the guy placing the order isn't catching on, or the software program isn't doing it, someone needs to tell them to do it.

My guess is they have quota's on how many they can order of any given product. Depending on how much shelf space is allocated for that product. If they have shelf space for 10 box's of 9mm 147 grain then they can only order 10 boxes of 9mm and no more. If they sell all 10 boxes in the first week then their out till the next shipment arrives. They don't seem to have any back room storage. If it's not on the shelf they are out. The employee's don't even know when a shipment is coming in.

There is alot of money to be spent in measures, and the assumption is that the more you spend the better it throws. Bottom line is that no matter how "precise" that they are manufactured that the other variables far outweigh the precision of the measure.

I had read a review of measures where they measured every throw, and the cheapest Lee did as well if not better than the most expensive. I believe it (even though I have not used a Lee scale). I measure everything that I throw with my measure and if your technique is the same 100%, the column height of the powder will still make the difference (no matter the baffles).

Do a search and see what you find.

I thought baffles might be a joke... Anyway I ordered a RCBS from Midway at an $11.00 savings over BPS price (including shipping). In the mean time I have been in contact with BPS and they are sending me a $25.00 gift card for not having the powder measure in stock. I win!
