A couple months ago mine took my new car and tried to parallel park downtown and tore up my rims on the curb on the passenger side. D'oh. I bit my lip and said, "No worries dear".

My wife wrecked my new Tacoma about 4 months before we got married and this is how it went down: I was getting ready for a trip to CT and before I left I told her "Don't drive my truck cause you're not on the insurance" she said "ok". Two days forward I'm driving to lunch in Danbury, CT and I get a phone call. My wife is sobbing, sobbing! "Please don't be mad at me, I wrecked the truck!" Well she took my truck out to go pick out some stuff for the wedding and ran into a lawn mowing company's trailer which crushed the front end of my truck... that was the first accident. So the officer shows up and writes up the accident and calls the locksmith cause she locked the keys in the truck with the engine running. After the locksmith opens the truck and all the information has traded hands and as she's getting ready to leave she hears tires screeching just then the cop car parked directly behind her is pushed into the rear bumper by a drunk driver that just rear ended the cop car. So now there's about 5 cop cars and a sergeant is dispatched to the scene since there was an officer involved in the second accident. All in all she wound up having two accidents inside of 45 minutes of each other and managed to lock the keys in the truck and then had to explain all this to her father and then finally called me. She felt bad so I didn't throw it in her face at the time but she has been victim of a funny comment every now and then.

Yeah, her dad still had her on his policy so his insurance picked up the tab since we weren't legally married yet.

Great thread so far!!

As I was driving the wife and I to something a few weeks back, she made some comment that I was going to tear my side-view mirror off if I didn't be more careful backing out of the garage. I blew it off, and said something like don't worry about my driving, I've never hit anything in the garage. Well, her being a female, couldn't let that be the end of it. She just had to get that last word in there. Said something like she had been parking in a garage a lot more than I had, and she knew that I didn't know how to park in one. Then I began to list the things she had hit in the garage and driveway. That really shut her up. For a moment....

Here's the list so far, and a little short story for each one.

1. My little sister's car. Back in high school, my parents house had a large driveway with several places to park cars. The wife (girlfriend at the time) was leaving to go home, so I walked her out. She starts to back out, and I walk back in. Only to hear a thump behind me. Yup, she had put her back bumper right into the tire and wheelwell of my sister's car. No damage was done to either. I walked back over to check on it, and once I saw everything was fine, I told her to go on home and not worry about it. The funniest thing was a few days later when my Mom mentioned the whole story to both of us. Apparently she heard the thump too and looked out the window to check on it.

2. My dad's tablesaw. So we bought an older house last July, and my Dad was up helping us do a few fix-it-up projects. We sat his table saw in the back corner of the garage, out of the way of the door. We even asked the wife if she would be able to back out without hitting it, and of course she said she would. Sure enough, the next morning she is about to leave and I am down in the garage looking for something, and she hits it. Puts a tiny scratch in her car, and she gets all mad at us for leaving it there in her way. To which I calmly replied that we both had asked her if it was okay to sit it there, and to watch out for it while backing up.

3. This one is the worst, so I saved it until the end. A couple of years back I had to travel out of state for my work. Well, the first week, I drove. The wife didn't like that my vehicle wasn't outside at night, and thought that someone might notice that she was alone that week. So the next week, my co-worker ran by the house to pick me up. We lived in a townhouse at the time with a 1-car garage and a one-lane driveway. So I parked my truck at the back of the driveway so she would have room to back out and go around my truck and still be able to pull in the garage at night. Well, Tuesday morning of that week, around 8:15, my cell phone rings and it is my wife. She is crying hysterically and tells me she got in an accident. I ask her if she is okay, and what happened. Well, she got in her car like she usually does and just started backing straight up. Right into the front bumper of my truck. Since she normally just backed straight up and nothing was there, she had gotten in the (bad) habit of not looking back. The good thing was that it was not a direct hit. Her back passenger side hit my front driver side. Put a tiny white mark on my Grand Cherokee. Did $3,000 in damage to her Honda Accord. She'll never live that one down.

And she was worried that my side-view mirrors, you know, the kind that break-away and swivel so that they don't tear off, would get torn off. Now I don't have a spotless driving record, but I do still have a spotless parking/garage record!!

Mine did $600 in damage to the car when she ran over an 8" curb.

She, at the time, went that way to work every weekday morning, but for some reason, she managed to hit it, killing both driver's side rims (dents), flattening one tire within minutes, and put a bubble on the other. Still drove it to work, on the highway... for a total of around 5 miles.

2 tires, 2 OEM wheels....$600.

How she managed to not damage the rest of the car, I have no idea...

She used to have a real problem with curbs too, so this wasn't the first time, but I razzed her this time about it bad enough that she doesn't do it any more.

She operates(operated?) everything like an on-off switch. GAS / BRAKE / LEFT TURN / RIGHT TURN

Not so bad now, I guess...then again I won't let her drive with me in the car unless there's no other option (drunk, medicated, too sick...etc)

About 10 years ago we were going to camping for the weekend with some friends. Since my wife was going to pick me up from work and she's tiny, I put our mountain bikes on the roof rack in the morning. Well later that day she had to go downtown to get a photo ID picture taken at a hospital. Do I really need to finish this story?

I got a phone call at work. My wife was sobbing. She said "I've done something terrible!" I thought "Oh no is someone dead?" but said, "Calm down, what happened." Turns out, as I'm sure you guessed, the bikes didn't clear the roof of the hospital parking garage. I said to her, "that's not terrible, it's just expensive."

During the three years we lived in Chicago, my wife ripped the passenger sideview mirror off our Neon twice and put creases in the sheet metal on the driver side twice and the passenger side once while entering and exiting parking garage spaces. It got to where I would tell her to watch out for brick walls because they liked to jump out at her.
