Also, if you cancel within that year contract time you have to pay some cancellation fees. After the year though it's month to month and you can cancel any time. My experiences with SBC DSL were very positive. So far they've been way better than my experiences with Time Warner. Their support was pretty good, you don't have to have someone come and "install" the modem and whatever on your computer etc... I also never had any service outage, slowdowns or problems. I've had all three with my cable modem and the customer support is VERY slow and really just pretty wretched. I realize not everyone probably has those problems but that's my experience. I'm seriously considering going back to SBC before the year is over.

Tech support is bleh, it's not a static IP, if the modem goes to **** their replacement is 100 bucks and yes, after the 1st year your rates go up to the full price.
I prefer local ISPs that I can go down to the office and talk to the people and aren't so big that they could care less if you have problems but actually want and need you as a customer. Those ISPs tend to jump when you have problems to get you working quicker. Had SBC and will never go back to them even if they offered DSL for 10 bucks a month with a free trip to a brothel.

Must be a regional thing because mine went down, not up. The nonstatic IP doesn't bother me and doesn't affect my usage.

I'm with Bellsouth DSL. My DSL modem was blown up by lightning sometime after the first year of service. I called them to get a replacement and they told me it would cost me over $100. I asked them if I were a new customer would I get a free modem like before. They said yes. So what do I have to do to get another free modem like a new customer? He said if I signed up for another year it would be free again. Duh! sign me up. I got the replacement for free.

The fee if you bail out early in your contract is to cover the cost of the modem. I've also heard that after your contract is up if you tell them you are switching services they will probably drop the price to keep your business. They figure better to get some of your money rather than none of it.

SBC DSL is a great service, no problems at all and never slows down. If running multiple computers don't go for the cheap routers like I did. 2 of them burned up and they will overload if your running a lot of stuff on both computers
