Yeah, Browning is the only person I put in any sort of order. He is #1; the rest I just put in a random order. I'm thinking though....sigh. I dunno. Mauser was probably slightly more influential than Kalashnikov. Errr...well...

Can I give both of them 2nd place?

Here's mine (in no order, except for the first, and he is the first):

1. John Browning (I believe, most influential of all time)
2. Paul Mauser
3. Mikhail Kalashnikov
4. Samuel Colt
5. Eugene Stoner

Honorable mentions (or other people I wanted to put on the list):

Gaston Glock
Sergei Simonov
John Garand

Okay...that's enough for now. Have fun.
Not sure that Eugene Stoner belongs there. Most of his designs are ****, too complicated and prone to failure when not cleaned constantly. How about Schmeisser? Most modern SMGs are based on his design. Can anyone say anything good about Mr. Henry? He did make the design that all lever actions copy.

Can we replace Stoner with Saive?

I think the FN-FAL and the Hi-Power are fielded by more soldiers than the M-16. The Hi-Power is still carried by many military groups. The Canadian soldiers took WWII made HPs to Iraq!

Besides, ask anyone in my Dad's generation (the guys that went to Nam in the mid 60s) what it was like to transition from the M-14 to the M-16. Dad never had a good word for the early M16.

Who designed the HK P7? Whoever that was deserves to be on that list. That pistol is a stroke of genius.

I would lke to add the unknown european who decided to put some of that chinese gunpowder and a metal ball in a tube then light the gun powder.

His design has them all beat as far as influence.

IMHO, Sam Colt should be a little higher on the list.

I agree, but I think the unknown European was... Chinese.
