I recently bought a Bolens from Lowes, the $159 model. I've used it twice, I really like it. It has a mulching blade, also comes with a bag if you wish to use it. Not a big wheel, but easy to deal with.

Go to the local library, go to the magazine section and find the Cosumer Reports Magazine. They have a report on lawnmowers. If you find the yearly guide which looks like a paperback book, it will tell you the date of the issue they last tested it in. Read the article and buy.

They usually post survey results from consumers just like everyone here. They show the reliablity of each brand; you know, which one needs the most repairs over a period of time. FYI, you can't go too wrong if the mower has a Honda engine, they are generally rated the best. Of course, you pay for it.

Personally, if I could still mow, I'd pay a little more and get a rear wheel self propelled. The last 2 I had were and they were bought used from a dealer. Each lasted 5yrs. 1 was a Toro, 1 a Honda.

Husqvarna.

I have one. 22 inch cut, rear bagger, mulching blade (I added later on) and a 6.5hp engine.

Built like my 1991 240 Volvo...Swedish...built like a brick ****house...and you absolutely cannot kill the thing!

I have owned this Husky for 6 years and it has been no trouble at all. I live on a corner lot and the grass grows thick and tall in Houston. We also mow for 8 months of the year. I also have a Husky gas trimmer and gas blower...again, more expensive than the others but damn tough and trouble free.
