But wouldn't the ECM throw an 06 series code identifying a specific cylinder?
Trouble Codes: 0608 - Cylinder 1 misfire 0607 - Cylinder 2 misfire 0606 - Cylinder 3 misfire 0605 - Cylinder 4 misfire 0604 - Cylinder 5 misfire 0603 - Cylinder 6 misfire |

Could I buy a OB 2 reader and do this myself or does it have to go to them?

Depends on if it has a single coil failing or a couple. A crank or cam angle sensor is not going to care if the engine is under load, it will fail regardless of where the throttle is. If it were a crank/cam angle sensor, or even a MAF or something of that sort, it would throw that specific code. Only other potential thing would be a plugged fuel filter and you dropping cylinders because of inadequate fuel pressure but you would usually throw an O2 sensor code too.

I don't know if this will help or not but it started getting worse and worse over time. At first it would only do it every once in awhile and then it now does it all the time.

Toughest thing here is doing this as an "internet diagnoses".
With doing this over the internet it becomes an interpretation of your description, if i were to drive it, I could tell right away what it was. If you romp on it and stay in it, what does it do?

It depends on the motor. Nissans with the VG30 and VG33 engines (300ZX's, Xterras, Frontiers) have belts. That's just off the top of my head. I'm not sure about the Maximas, though. I'm really only familiar with the VGs and the KA series motors. EDIT: The maxima does have a chain. Last edited by ParagonUSMC; 02-06-2008 at 03:08 PM. |

I can understand that, if you really push it, that is when it really hesitates and misses. When going up hills it starts to miss as well. That is when that light starts to blink like crazy!

Is the hesitation separate from the miss, or are you talking about basically the same thing?
