40 & Rainier Reloads

Alright, since I didn't write down some of the info on previous posts, can whoever here loads 40 SW with the Rainier 165 gr. HP (or others) please post their load data again?? Seems like there were a couple of members who posted some data, but can't remember who or what. Thanks!

I don't think I posted before, but I have found that the Rainier hollow points are very soft and unless you seat and crimp as seperate steps you will deform the ends and get uncertain seating depths. I have tried to modify my seating tools with limited success. I have not tried since I bought my lathe and I think I could do the right thing now, but my previous attempts with Rainier hollow points has been suspect.

I load the Rainier 165 gr. HP as follows:

4.3 grains Clays, not Universal, with Winchester small pistol primer or 5 grains Win 231 with the same primer. Clays seems to be cleaner. The final step is to use a Lee Carbide Factory Crimp die. Have had no problems with the bullet deforming using a Dillon RL 650.

Thanks for the replies!

Camper:
Since you use a factory crimp die, are you seating with a seperate die?? Or does it do both? Just wondering due to Don's comments. Also, how well does Clays meter?

Agalindo:

Does Bullseye burn clean and meter well? Unique and Herco would not meter at all for me.

Thanks for the help![/b]

I had been using 700X and Bullseye seems to burn cleaner and I haven't had any trouble with my measure. I just bought a pound of Tightgroup that I hear burns clean and is easy to measure. I plan to use the same 4.9 gr load with Tightgroup.

Brian40, The Lee die for sizing is used last, after the round is seated. It is in position #5 on the Dillon 650. Have not metered the Clay or 231 rounds. Need to, but have not gotten around to doing that. The groups are good though and do what they need to do in practical pistol shooting.

Ditto Titegroup.

Cheap, very clean, very consistant velocity and meters excellently. {from Dillon's measure}
