It is usually, as we have both found out, a misunderstanding of what is said. When taken out of context (ie not reading the first post first) it can come across as anti-American. Typically, what I have experienced is that after a few back and forths we come to the understanding that we are saying basically the same stuff, just maybe getting to the common end result differently.

As you know I think we need to exit Iraq, but not a cut-and-run method of doing so. Put the burden on the Iraqi govt and help them out for a while and then leave.

Have you heard about this on the news?

Then I bet you won't hear it on Al-Jazeera or read about it in Middle Eastern Countries.

I wonder if it mentions whether the grapes are sour?

there was a report that came out a while ago, if i can find it i will get it up here... we all need to see it.

but the gist of it was that if it was a suice-related attack, it was most likely al qaeda. these regular conflicts wth RPGs and mortars are not normally related to al qaeda, but simply anti-coalition forces. not 'terrorists,' in the normal sense of the term.

insurgents, whatever...

It actually seems to make more sense. Jesus said that he wouldn't drink the fruit of the vine until he sees us again, so at least it would be in line with what Jesus had said.

I disagree. War is sometimes necessary. Anyone that says that violence never solves anything needs to spend some time in reality.

As usual, we eventually (sometimes immediately) see eye-to-eye as do most. But some people seem all to ready to jump down the throat of anyone who is against their personal view of the situation we are in.

With regards to what Rupert said,
I've heard many stories from those who have served in Iraq of just how much profit is occurring over there. I hear it from my students who are now using GI bills to go to school. They tell me that transport vehicles that once sat idle after the build up, are now used to transport flat-panel TVs and many other things into the area for civilian contractor enjoyment . They also state that soldiers lives are at risk everytime these events happen.

Munitions, food and water make sense. But a TV
I guess that's what nation building is being defined as.

They also tell me of the many good things that occur, so I think I get a fairly balanced report via bits and pieces. With all due respect, many do not even speak of Iraq, and I do not pry. If they offer something up during private conversation, I listen and learn from their first hand account.

ETA: and Rupert is a zillion % right, both sides are losers.

I think I am siding with Krackels on this one. In many cases war has a clear and distinct winner and loser. Sometimes there is little or no loss of life or property on one side and tremendous loss on the other side. OTOH sometimes there is great loss on both sides.

But I think we forget what war really is. We focus on the military as if that were what war was all about... battles, killing, territory gains & losses, technology etc. That really is not what war is. As Von Clausewitz said, war is an instrument of national policy.

War is one way that a nation gets what it wants. It imposes its will by force either in an offensive or defensive way... sometimes a little of both. It is usually a poor way to do so because it entails great risk and genuine uncertainty. But in some cases, it is the fastest and surest way to fulfillment of national policy and national desire.

Of course for any dead people and their families, war sucks.

That is a terrible thing. They are all sick and retarded so it could just be there x girlfriends or wifes. I think the military should make all the media leave the country and stop all info flow from there concerning the war. The media is one reason alot of our men and women over there fighting are getting killed. They have to be so dern politically correct they take to many chances and get shot while waiting on someone to give them a kill order or not. THAT'S BS, it's war and they didn't ask question's or care about innocent people on 9-11, did they? Shot first ask questions later. Let GOD sort them out. JMO
