Your situational awareness is good, but your readiness could use some work. If I were you I would either get a holster to mount in your car under the dash or next to the seat or I would look for a new way to carry my pistol.

Here's the problem with a separate gun for your car as I see it.

1. Someone could break into your car and steal your gun when your not in it.

2. If your carry gun is under your shirt and under your coat, what is your plan if you need to draw your gun when your not in your car?

I keep a cheap kydex holster attached to the inside of my driver's door map pocket. It holds my gun securely, and I just transfer it to my holster when I get out.
