Just a thought. What do you think our parents and grandparents did with animals on the farm who couldnt produce? They were slaughtered.
Yup, and it still happens. I don't know any farmer that would let all that meat go to waste. That link says 12 out of 15 "mad cows" in the US were downers... What does that prove? Whether the cow is an "upper", a "downer", an "in-betweener", or an "kneeler", it has to be inspected. So how is the food supply put in greater danger by slaughtering "downers"? Most downers simply have broken legs or hips.

So now the big picture: Why would the Humane Society raise hell about this? The same reason obvious anti-gunners would push for more "common sense restrictions", when ultimately their goal is a complete ban.

Lightbulb

This may be distasteful, so dont read if you may be offended.

I bet they forget about the pain once the gun goes off.

regardless of what your opinions are on what you/family/local butcher does with a "downed" cow is a moot point.

It is against USDA regulations to butcher a downed cow for human consumption.
The reasoning behind this... is e-coli. more specifically.. the e-coli O157:H7 that is rampant in a cows fecal matter.

If a cow has been rolling around in poo because it can't walk it is "more likely" to get this bacteria in the meat when it is butchered.

With that said.

That video didn't prove to me that those cows were in fact being served to our school children. Even if they were how many cases of e-coli have been reported?

Seems safe to me... I ate school lunches and enjoyed them.

I wasnt telling anyone what to do. Just a friendly note to those who may find stuff like that offensive.

If they shot them out in the field/yard, the meat would almost always run a greater risk at being tainted. It is just not sanitary enough to move the animal after it is shot and bleeding than it is before hand. IMO

If you also see the video, once the animal makes it into the building area, it is hosed down. Therefore, the massive amounts of fecal matter are being knocked off. You know this meat is tested and not just passed on..............right?
