"One year after gun-owners were forced to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed, including semi-automatic .22 rifles and shotguns, a program costing the government over 500 million dollars, the results are in... "
http://www.geoffmetcalf.com/aus.html "Since Australia's gun ban, armed robberies increase 45%" http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=15304 "On April 28th 1996, a maniac shot 35 people in Port Arthur. The media went ballistic, screaming about the evil of "assault" firearms. Australians were shocked. Nothing like this had ever happened in sleepy, peaceful Australia. The shrill cry and incessant anti-gun propaganda paid off and, in just 12 days, Federal resolutions were passed and the states enacted them into laws. What did they enact? Did they just go after "ugly" guns, those military look-alike assault weapons? Think again! They outlawed every semi-auto, even those "pretty" duck guns, the Browning A5 and the Remington 1100's. They even struck down pump shotguns; the Winchester model 12 and the Remington 870 are two examples. The law read "Any pump shotgun with a magazine capacity of 5 rounds or less." http://www.gunowners.org/hlr-au.htm

So are you trying to say that all guns are banned in Australia??
Far from the truth they took away semi auto and pump shotguns and also semi auto rifles but there are still plenty of other types of guns available. |

i've talked to australians about this before.
the ones who are all ban-happy are happy with it, simply because numbers of these incidents are down. they dont really care that they still happen, just that they happen less

Gun bans create black markets.
What these idiot Democrat liberals(and a few Republicans) fail to recognize is that we have BANS on illegal drugs in the U.S. It is against the law to import, possess, sell, use drugs. How could we possibly have such a large drug problem, then? They are banned! Oh, that's right. Black Market. So when they ban "assault weapons" I cannot wait to see what comes in from Central America and China. Full Auto, baby!! can't wait!! |

Now I'm one of those madmen who thinks that everybody should be issued a Class III machine gun the day they're born and people should be allowed to buy tanks and bomber planes so take this with a grain of salt. The justness of a government is directly proportional to the probability of its people being able to overthrow it. The less power you grant to the people to fight the government, the less just the government is. People can hunt and enjoy good sports without guns. People can _NOT_ resist a well-equipped military with muzzle-loaders and crossbows. The true necessity of arms is found in their effectiveness against a police state. Any other use for guns is an expression and exercise in freedom. Guns _ARE_ icons of liberty. Guns _ARE_ tools for protecting life against massive human threats. Banning weapons that can effectively defend one man from a police squad is the same as banning every kind of firearm all together.

Hey I agree we are headed in the wrong direction but we are not there yet, we can still own most handguns though they have put calibre restrictions and barrel length restrictions but as I said we can still own most.
We have never had a right to carry here so you can only own firearms for sport. We have a thriving IPSC competion with about 3 hundred at our National Champs last year and expect even more this Easter. We are screwed in relation to International visitors to our matches as our max calibre for IPSC at the moment is .38/9mm but rest assured we are still fighting to get the .40/.45 back. And at the moment we are stuck with the Kalifornia 10 rnd mag limit. Terry Last edited by terrydoc; 02-01-2008 at 02:55 PM. |
