I'm a human resources recruiter at a Fortune 500 company. Basically, I go through resumes looking for potential employees. Trust me, I see some pretty horrible resumes out there by people have no grammar skill whatsoever. If their name is something like Xiang, or Nguyen, I'll give them a break. But when they have a professional (or proffetional as I've seen) designation following their last name, I wonder if they're having any luck looking for jobs.
Today I saw one that really made me cringe. This gentleman let the whole world know on his monster.com resume that he was "licensed to carry a concealed weapon (ccw)." Okay, I carry at work, but this guy makes me mad that he blows his cover like that. I understand that he was trying to impress some HR manager somewhere that he's trustworthy, so much in fact that the State allows him to carry a gun. But don't have that info attatched to a resume. |

I had a guy with the last name of "Judge" send a resume for an engineering position... in it, he made constant reference to "here come de judge" like that was gonna get him an interview.
I must admit, I almost brought him in just to see how bad he was, but figured he might sue me later if I didn't hire him.

Yeah, that is something I wouldn't put on my resume.
BTW where can I send my resume? I would love a new job with a fortune 500 company. I am willing to relocate from Los Angeles. If it's in finance, sign me up. |

Agreed. That information is for him and his local Sheriff to know, only. IMO, if I put that on any resume I turned in, the resume had better be for a security job. If I'm applying for anything else, nobody is going to care and, in most cases, the HR manager will over-react and think poorly of the individual.

Sounds like a real Delta Bravo. Maybe if he was applying to be an armed guard or a merc, but otherwise?

Blows my mind too. Just look at how some people post on message boards. I've known guys who say they don't worry about proper grammar and spelling on message boards but claim they do it right on work related stuff. I tried getting lazy on message boards once till I noticed it was affecting my work stuff too.

If this is how the candidate handles the concealment of his firearm, then how will he handle the concealment of company trade secrets?
86 his resume.

Was his name Gecko45 by chance? Did he list his unique cat-like maneuvering skills and ability to do a double back flip over an Orange Julius counter?
