Angry So should I find another Range?(rant)

There's this gun range/shop up the road from me that I have started going to. I patron their store because I like them. Every now and then I go in and buy something to kind of help out the little guy mom and pop store. Recently I bought a set of Trijicons from them and they said they would install them for free and the sights would be $130. I realize you can get them for under $100 but I figure it's free installation so what the heck. I bring my XD in and they tell me it will be no problem, that the front sight's a bugger but they've done them before.
So I get the call later expecting to hear that my pistol is done. They said that they were able to remove the rear sight but not the front, that they have to ship it to Springfield, it's going to be about a week and it will be an additional $40-50...

I bluntly reminded them that we agreed on a price for a set of installed trijicons and now you are relieving me of my only pistol for a week...So they counter with $140. I go in there all the time and they try to hit me for $10 for their mistake?

So much for the Mom and Pop service.

I know in my line of work when I make a mistake the ball's in my court to correct it. Un-freaking-believable!
What do you think, should I find another range?

When I got my Trijis they wanted 130. I told them I could get them for 90 on the net with free shipping but that I would buy theirs if they installed them.

They said no. I ended up getting them on the net and then taking them to their sister store where they preceded to beat the crap out of my gun and got scuffs and scratches all over the dovetails and top of slide.

I wouldn't let $10 be that big of a deal. I understand where you're coming from about principal and being without your pistol though.

i guess it depends how much of a change you'll need to make, and how willing you are to do it...

if its too difficult/not worth it, just avoid talking to them and never do any side-business with them other than throwing some rounds downrange...

I'd give them the agreed upon price and tell them to pound sand if they tried to force more. They said they could do the work for a certain price, it's THEIR PROBLEM if they couldn't actually do the work and had to farm it out to someone else.

I feel having work done on ANY gun by ANYONE other than the manufacturer of that gun is a crap shoot.

Keep in mind, I do it often! But none the less, it's a gamble each time I drop off the gun. Is the guy going to f*ck it up? Am I going to get the gun is better, or worse, condition then I left it? So far, I've been lucky. Worse case I've had is a gunsmith scuffed up the slide when trying to replace sights once... Really bad on the finish.

So, I ask you, would you have preferred him/her to FORCE the sights off, scuffing up the remaining finish on the slide, or saying "It's going to be an extra $10 to have it done right..."

They should eat the $10. But then again it's only $10.

At this point I would chalk it up as experience.

Everyone knows how difficult the sights are on XD's and I would only trust Springer Precision or Springfield themselves to do work on my XD.

The way I see it, they offered to install it for free but didn't realize they'd end up having to send it to Springfield. They probably should have checked with you before sending it off, but they obviously didn't.

IMHO, it wouldn't really be fair to stick them with the additional costs. It's not like this is a big corporation, it's a mom and pop store so you know that any amount of money they lose on this is money they need.

If it were me, I'd either cover the cost or meet them halfway, it would just depend on how they treated me. The staff at my local gunshop greet me by name when I walk in, I'd have no problem covering the whole cost there.
