Who else works a Night Shift?
How many of you work or have worked a Night Shift out there?
I have of course worked nights in the Air Force and at my current job now. I have been working a 6pm-6am shift for nearly a year and a half now. Do you like working nights as opposed to days? How do you deal with your days off? Same sleep schedule? Do you feel as if you have the same energy level? Let me know your thoughts or if you have any info about the "night people". Kent |

I've worked swings for about a year and a half.
I'm currently working mids from 11pm till about 8 am. I actually prefer it since production (flightline) isn't around to make you do some BS jobs (for the most part) and work at my own pace. I usually go to bed about 2 hrs after I get home and sleep till about 10:30 pm when i get into my groove. On my days off, I'll either switch to a dayshift schedule and just iron man it out over the weekend until sunday afternoon, since I start at midnight on monday morning. My worst shift is days, since I tend to be on the nocturnal side. With that said I feel way more energetic on swings/mids.

I try and stay up some times on my days off, others I'll sleep for 12+ hours. I take it you are stationed at Nellis AFB? I was there a few times, and got my incentive flight while there TDY. Kent |

yep, I'm at Nellis. What was your job when you were in the AF, if you don't mind me asking?

I am thinking the Winter might be getting to me more so than the night shift part. Being cooped up in the house at night since it is 13 degrees outside.... I need to insulate my shop and get a wood stove out there. Kent |

I work 7-7 one week (7 straight) per month. It's nice and quiet compared to days but I'm usually useless during the day. I go to bed about an hour after I get home (8am) and get up by 3-4pm. Just enough time to eat handle some day to day business and get out the door by 6:15ish. I get off the last one on thursday morning and start days on monday, so I have to adjust sleep every time. It's rough, but it pays the bills.

I work 12 hour shifts but I rotate between nights and day. I hate the transition between night to day as I usually get one day off between them and I can sleep the night before days because i am still in night shift mode. I work 7 day shifts per month and 7 night shifts a month but not in a row. I work no more than 3 nights in a row or 3 days in a row. Eg is I front for Monday and tuesday nights, finished Wednesday morning. Get Thursday off then in friday, saturday and sunday day work. Get Monday and tuesday off them front wednesday and thurday night shifts, finish friday morn and get Saturday and Sunday off. I cant get use to it but I have been on some roster or another since 1988. It is in all honesty killing me. My weight i cant controll, my blood pressure is cactus and I wont talk about other bodily functions.

Is there any thing that seems to help the transition? I wonder because when I am bored at night I seem to just sit in front of the computer and read. Then the family wakes up, and I am off to sleep shortly. Kent |
