Interesting statistics from Myth Busters
Myth Busters is on right now and they're working on a myth about how people fly around after getting shot in the movies. They're shooting a 185 lb pig hung from some homemade swing.
They went over safety rules very clearly and I was impressed. They have two guys with the firearms, a trainer for the San Fransisco police department and a former SWAT sniper team leader. They used the following firearms and didn't get much movement at all from the pig: M4 is what they called it, but it was actually an MP5, in 9mm with hollowpoints. Thompson submachine gun....45 acp. .44 magnum with a 240 grain load. AR15 MP5 on full auto Something in .30-06 bolt action rifle. Slug from a shotgun...the pig fell, but it could have been the failure of the chain more than the slug since it just dropped straight down and didn't go back at all. We're at commercial break right now and they're bringing in Buster, the dummy, next. EDIT: I forgot to add the statistic I found interesting and the reason I posted the thread: 70% of all fatal shootings occur at 22 feet. I don't know who or what their source is, but I thought that was pretty interesting. Just over 7 yards.

That's fine, I haven't seen it. I was impressed with their discussion of safety at the range and gun safety rules.

I was never impresed with their gun myth testing other than the dead bolt shot and the hangman's knoose myth. But it is fun to watch them shoot stuff.

I've actually watched 'em shoot stuff at the Chabot range down here in OakTown.
I thought it was funny that THEY get to "Blow SHNITZ up", and I've gotten yelled at by the Range "Master" for shooting at an OSAMA BIN LADEN target!

I reject your reality and choose to substitute my own.

I wonder why they don't go to the outdoor range in Campbell. It isn't that much further than Oakland is. Oh well. It'd be cool if I ever see them over at Jackson Arms. |
