any way to make it more exciting?
I have gotten bored with standard 7 yard targets and standing on a 2nd floor deck to shoot. Any way to make it more interesting? My groups aren't too tight though, so should I just keep practicing at that, and try and get the yardage to be more as well? I also could try and join this hunting club that has a handgun range, but I don't know what they allow or don't allow.
The idea of IDPA type stuff seems interesting, but I think might be a bit advanced for me at this time. Shooting watermelons is a waste of watermelons. Targets of the VA Tech shooter etc- interesting, but I don't know how to make them. Metal knockdown targets- don't know if I am good enough for that yet.

Go to the uspsa website www.uspsa.com and put in your zipcode and find a local club... you don't have to be good to start shooting, EVERYONE is very friendly and helpful, plus you'll get INFINITE knowledge from the people who shoot there... Don't worry about being "any good" just make sure your safe, thats the biggest focus in a USPSA match...

7 yards is only 21 feet...i always shoot between 20-25 feet at my range...if you not having fun with the pistol's..buy a .22 rifle...they are awesome/cheap fun.
going from a .22 rifle back to a pistol will surely put a smile on your face |

Try IDPA it is allot of fun. You compete against other people in your class. Most IDPA clubs eagerly welcome new members and will help you get started.I didn't think I was ready to shoot competitively either, when I started those fears went away quickly.Go and try IDPA you'll be glad you did just HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE.

How about blowing holes in plastic gallon jugs full of water? They're rather entertaining to shoot with hollowpoints.

It takes a place where you can fire at will, but an accurate rifle and some golfballs, makes for an interesting game of shooter golf.

i know what you mean brush-wolf-lady.....
i used to be able to go to my buddys farm in the next county and shoot....he had this old, run down shed out on the edge of the farm by a creek and we would literally have a "blast" shotting there... we would shoot paint cans, soda pop bottles, potatoes, light bulbs, bowling pins....we even had some old junker car parked back there we would shoot at...real fun.... but he had to sell the land and i cant shoot there anymore...now its just paper targets at the indoor range.... not even half as fun.....but at least its shooting.... |

I love reactive targets. They sell some that are like plastic balls. Just buy a bag of practice golf balls or wiffle balls. Walmart has them cheap. If you use real golf balls they really fly when you hit them. Another one is to hang a plastic bottle from a cross arm with a piece of string and shoot it the fun part is the second shot while it is still moving.
