Ron Paul is supported by that whack job Alex Jones. Jones and the 911 truthers as they call themselves believe that the US and Israel took down the towers and hit the pentagon on 9 11. Paul's refusal to distance himself from those kooks has kept him from becoming a serious contender.

He also looked bad on the incident with the Iranian speed boats. He seems to have forgotten about the USS Cole and that the US ships showed discipline and the US did not try to start WWIII there as Paul claimed even though the US would have been justified in taking the Iranians out.

RP can't help who backs him. He has distanced himself from them as much as he should. He said they don't speak for him, what else do you want? That has nothing to do with whether or not he is a serious contender.

As far as the Iranian incident, he couldn't hear part of the question and that made him look bad. He agreed that some restraint was needed and that is what was done. Romney tried to make him look bad, but was booed by many for it.
