Or we should probably start collecting for an annual troll feed subsidy...

Nice. So bottom line you won't support your attack on his character. Fine, I'll let it go, but now I know not to put too much weight on your posts.

I disagree. I'm just saying there needs to be a throttle. We've lost our major industries partially because of the incentives companies have to outsource part or all of their operations overseas. I'm just asking for a balance to the issue.

Add to that, we manufacture very little on US soil if you compare the industrial might of the 1940's through today, and you can see that something is broken.

Meanwhile, we're importing goods from substandard companies, that have little in terms of equal ethics to what we require here (China, namely).

It's a chicken-egg.

In a nutshell, the more we import, the less work there is here, therefore the less money stays here, and the poorer we become as a whole.

Maybe it is isolationist, but at the same point, if we are unwilling to become a singular world-wide economy, it really is a case of US vs THEM - and at some point, you have to worry about your own backyard rather than taking care of your neighbors.

Our problem has been bad trade policy, not trade in general. You cannot survive in a vacuum.

Thanks, for a minute there I thought this was another worthless thread. Now I at least got something of substance out of it.

if the government would de-regulate business, like it was almost totally un-regulated when the country was founded, we wouldn't have a problem making low-priced goods to beat everyone else...

but you have to realize minimum wages, "safety standards", and all of that would have to go too. or at least take a serious punch in the face.

all of it adds ot cost of american work/labor. as do income taxes, social security, medicare.... et unbefreakinlievable al.

as far as judge's post goes, he's posted these same things a hundered times.
"he's isolationist" (and sanctions against a country aren't?),
"he's against the troops" (who wants them to die somewhere, and who doesn't...? this is just one reason i feel it falls flat on its argumentative face, not to mention Reagan said he was one of the best in congress for the soldiers ),
"he blames america" (no he blames policy, you and i dont make it. and strangely enough, when we try to vote in someone to change it, we're terrorist sympathizers! - catch 22 at its finest.)

While I understand that, I'm saying we have a horrible trade deficit - we are literally giving away our nation for lower prices.

We are in complete agreement on this.

I would say that globalization is inevitable. It's the way that it's conducted that can be changed. Read things by Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel prize winning economist who writes about globalization.

He has written a book called "Globalization and its Discontents."
