Personal Dilemma... Help???
I received a new game console for Christmas that I don't particularly have time for. It's a great gift and all, but not one I really wanted nor is it one I will use often. Here's the deal:
The gifter asked around from my family what I wanted for Christmas and universally the fam said, "Camping stuff." Which is what I wanted. The gifter said, "What about a new game console?" and universally the family said, "No. He won't be able to use it/won't really want it." The gifter disregarded all of that and got it for me anyway. Not typically a problem except that I'm not a 22 y.o. college guy anymore... just don't have a ton of time for gaming. I'm more of a computer gamer myself, anyway. So, since I have this great game console (I do like it, don't get me wrong), what ought I to do? Can I sell it and buy a gun? Is this within the bounds of being a good gift getter? I just don't really know... I feel that, since I don't have time for a game console because I'm always doing something with my family or reading or getting ready to go back to school, etc., I should sell it and get something I WILL have time for. But, I don't want to hurt the gifter's feelings... he's family. Advice? This is the DUMBEST dilemma I've ever dealt with. It SHOULD be a non-issue. But, for some reason, I can't get over the whole thing. joe

It depends. If it is a Wii, then the giver most likely put some effort into getting it for you and I'd hang onto it to at least be polite.
If it's anything else, just tell the giver the truth and ask if he would mind if you returned it or sold it. |

If it's a Wii definitely keep that those are fun. And if it's a Xbox 360 then go buy Halo 3 and COD 4!! Anything else sell it.

a wii has family pick up and play capability, keep it for group interactions. An xbox 360 if you won't play it, sell it. A PS3 HOLY $HITTT man how did you get one I"ll take it! But seriously if you don't want a PS3 its not a pick up and play console, so sell it. a 360 is kinda pick up and play, but at least half the games are save and plays.

Is the Gifter a good enough friend that they wouldn't be offended if they found out? Or do you feel confident enough that if you called them to explain the situation and asked if they minded you trading it in on something else that they would be ok with it?
If not, just put it away and maybe after a while you can use it to relax after work one day.....since it was a gift, it won't hurt you to not use it.

The gifter was told numerous times "no" to game console, and "yes" to camping stuff. It's not your fault they are deaf, dumb or both. Besides, its a gift. It's yours now. Do with it what you will.
Besides, (if it's a Wii) I've played a Wii and I wasn't impressed. If I want to swing a bat, I'll go outside and play ball. Same with tennis, golf, boxing, etc... |

You guys are EVIL!!!
The PS3 kicks much ass!!!! COD4 ROCKS!!!!! As far as your dilemma, I think you should inform the gifter of your appreciation for the gift and explain that you don't have time to use it and would like to exchange/sell it for something that you need. The problem with outright selling it (not telling the gifter) is when the gifter finds out they will probably be hurt. It maybe better to ask for permission than forgiveness in this situation, but i don't know the gifters personality so i could be wrong. Happy New Year XD'ers!!!!!!!!
