Marlin model 30AS 30-30

Just bought the above at an auction. Does anyone know anything about this weapon and how it compares to some of the other more "common" models of Marlin's 30-30 rifles? I can't find anthing on the internet about it to speak of, even on Marlin's site or leverguns.com. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats on the purchase. That's one of my favorite styles of rifle. Sorry, can't offer any help in regards to your questions though.

IIRC the 30-AS was/is Marlin's "price point" offering; "A" indicates a stained birch stock instead of the standard walnut; some had a little cheaper rear sight, but since the factory irons on most all .30-30's pretty much suck, this is irrelevant. "S" indicates the presence of a cross-bolt safety through the receiver.

They are in all other respects equal to the 336C-S, and should shoot just as well. Mounts will interchange, etc.

Have fun with your new Marlin. My breother just bounght one of these in excellent shapr for $200; mind if I ask what you gave for yours?

Thanks for the info invssgt. I also paid $200, but after the DROS fee, 10% buyer premium fee from the auction and tax, we are talking $268. A new one here on sale is $320 for the gun alone, so it would be close to $400 buy the time I got finished.

This one is in excellent shape.

The one I really wanted was the 336 with a thinner forestock (evidently custom or after market as the one I have is wider and I was told it was stock). It also had a Leopold (sp) sight. It came up second tho and I was afraid if I forgot about the first and tried to get the 2nd one it would go for over $300 (actually went for $275, but how I was supposed to know!).

The guys down working there gave me the wrong info and said they were the same, but after reading what you said, I wish I had bid on the one with scope and paid a little more for a little better rifle with a great scope. Oh well, live and learn.
