Camp-O-Rama (w/pics)

The wife and I had a chance to get away Thursday for a night so we decided to pack up and head out to our favorite campground. As luck would have it our favorite campground was still closed. It is still under repair from the flooding that took place during Hurricane Charley.

So we went to our second favorite campground only a few miles away.

Here's the set up.

Now if I do a 180 from where I took the first picture I can see the sparkling clear waters of the South Toe River.

Now when it's time to eat, we don't play. We got the baby back ribs, the corn, the asparagus (of course) and a sweet potato. All washed down with cold beers.

The weather was great and I didn't need anything more than my P32 in my pocket. Of course the HS was in the truck.

Maybe you all can go next time.

Very very pretty. Looks clean too. Nothing like a nice clean Campground, and nothing worse than a trashy one. Man, I gotta get out more.

The biggest drawback to this place is you can still hear a little traffic noise occasionally, the #1 choice is quieter.

And actually this place has better fishing, the other campground is fly fishing only, catch and release. That kinda knocks my wife out of fishing since she doesn't fly fish.

This stretch of the river is considered general trout waters, it's stocked.

Both of these campgrounds are in Yancey county, N.C. at the foot of Mount Mitchell in the Black Mountains, about halfway between the towns of Marion and Spruce Pine. They are some of the most rugged and beautiful mountains in N.C. Our preferred campground is "The Black Mountain Campground", the one pictured is "Carolina Hemlocks". They are both maintained by the U.S. Park Service as a part of the Pisgah National Forest.

They are both great for what you describe. Just be sure to pour your beer in a cup.
