Do you carry when visting friends/family?

With the holidays coming up and what not, when you go visit family/friends, do you carry at their houses? On my dad's side of the family, the only other person who might be carrying is my cousin who's a New Jersey LEO and he might be required to carry while off duty, but we'll be at my grandparents' place in PA, so I don't know if he'll be carrying or not. Other than him, I'm the only other person in the family who does carry. On my mom's side, I don't think anyone does. I doubt anyone does on my wife's side either.

Just curious how you handle it. I want to be respectful and not have any bad surprises.

I understand where you're coming from, but I want to be respectful of other people's houses, ya know what I mean?

My parents understand, but I don't know how they feel about a loaded gun being toted around the house. Most of the time they don't even know it's on me.

I'm wondering more about the in-laws than anybody else. Most of them hunt, and the wife's uncle has a pistol he keeps in the truck, but I don't know if he carries it at all...

i carry everywhere i go - if i'm going somewhere that i know doesnt like the idea of guns in the house i just dress to ensure that i'm not going to print. i'm sure that if it came down to me having to use it to protect them they wouldnt mind i was carrying. when i become LEO my chief requires us to carry off duty at all times so they wont have a choice then.

its a concealed weapon, it should never become an issue, unless you need it, in which case they will hopefully be singing your praises

I do remember one time when a relative expressed shock that someone would think it was necessary to carry around a loaded gun, and she was worried about it being around kids. Of course my father in law and I were both sitting at the table with our pistols concealed, so that was pretty funny. Once we explained how careful we are about safety and why a person would need to carry in her neighborhood, she was fine with it. If you aren't a crazy idiot about it, it might be an opportunity to educate your relatives about the issue.

I don't think any of our family is anti at all, I was just curious. I agree about it being concealed and not an issue.

With that situation, it's not even really optional. I'm wondering about my cousin from NJ on whether or not he's even allowed to carry off duty in another state since he's from NJ and it's practically a "shall not issue" state.

I don't understand how it's rude to carry a personal firearm into another person's house.

You're presumably not flashing it at them. You're presumably not setting it down where their children can get a hold of it, and if you're careful they're not even seeing it. I don't think it's any more rude than wearing a piece of jewelry or your favorite shirt to someone's party.
