Shipping ammo.
Searched around before I decided to post and found two different answers so decided to start my own thread to hopefully get one answer. I just sold my XD .45 today and have a couple boxes of ammo left. I was wanting to sell them here but was wanting to make sure can I ship them myself via UPS to whoever is lucky enough to buy them? Anyone ever tried this??

Ammo must ship GROUND and certain kinds of ammo are illegal to ship to certain states or cities.
Can only ship pistol ammo to someone 21. Want to know more? Go to someplace that sells/ships ammo and they will list the restrictions per state. For example. even though black powder rifles aren't firearms per federal regs, you can't ship them to Hawaii.

Sorry bad terminology. I traded it in for a SC 9mm. Didn't have enough to just add another so had to trade it in. The SC 9mm carries a lot better.

Scratch that idea. I had some leftover boxes of Independence reload able .45 ammo I was gonna sell for $10 a box to get rid of it, but can't. UPS wants me to have a Haz-mat contract on top of shipping them in an explosion proof box. Just in case and I quote her "If they where to just explode for some random reason we wouldn't want one of our employees to get shot" I was like holy sh!t this chicks for real. So now I'm stuck with this .45 ammo and no .45 to shoot them. Guess the only answer is to save up and buy another .45

Ummmm.........I think she is full of ****e.
I shipped 200 rounds of .308 a while back and only had to write "ORM-D Small Arms Cartridges" on the outside of the box in marker. No extra fees or anything because UPS dosen't consider loaded ammunition to be hazardous. However if you were shipping a can of powder or a brick of primers that would be a diffrent story. The only catch is you HAVE to drop off the package yourself at a UPS Customer Service Center. I have one local about 10 mins away so it's not a big deal for me but may be for you depending on where you live. This is from the ARFCOM site: Quote:
Also USPS=absolutley NO shipping of ammo FEDEX=Hazmat charge becuase they consider ammunition to be a hazardous material

You absolutely can ship ammo via UPS GROUND.
The woman you talked to was wrong.

Some UPS centers understand the regulations and some do not. The places that do not are afraid and no amount of reason will work with them.
jeepinbanditrider 's post is correct, but if you are shipping good luck convincing the local clerks at your UPS Customer Service Center. Not all of them are so well educated. |
