Scientist make gay/bi fruit flies

I am of the thought that gay people are born gay or with gay tendencies. While humans are far more complex than fruit flies on the order of magnitudes, the fact that there is a gene to control sexual tendencies in fruit flies leads to the possibility that there might be genes that influence our preferences.

I just thought this was an interesting development on the whole nature vs. nurture aspect of gayness.

Sounds like something Matt Ridley would write about. You should check out his stuff if you haven't already... it offers an interesting perspective.

Of course homosexuality is perfectly natural.......it's part of natural selection. Natures own way of controlling species. Some people are dumb/stupid & get killed. Some die from diseases/ accidents, & some don't like to procreate with the opposite sex....perfectly natural.

Was this something done in the US? If so, its nice to see our tax dollars hard at work. I would bet this is some government funded research.

Yeah, no s**t. Make flies gay, but don't worry about curing all the other crap that's out there, or feeding those who are not as fortunate as us.

After reading the article....

http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/h...lies10.article

...it would appear that the bisexual tendencies created can be controlled with drugs that influence how the flies perceive hormones. Think about the flip side for a bit: telling all the gay/bi/lesbo/transgender activists out there that science has discovered a "cure" for homosexuality is one sure way to get a whole bunch of people riled up. I'd buy tickets for that press conference.

I'm a REAL BIG proponent of that myself. Somebody here used to have a tag line in their sig something to the effect of "Can't we kill off all the stupid people? I don't mean like shooting them or anything, just remove all the warning labels and let nature take it's course."

the military in the 80s was looking into using chemicals to make males gay, as a possible way to create disorder among enemy ranks. Just imagine a muslim contingent in Checknya that runs a nuclear missile silo, they all start having gay tendencies. That would cause problems, big ones.
