Ruger SR9
Does anyone own a Ruger SR9 or have had a chance to use one? Would like to hear some opinions?

I'm also interested but find myself drawn more to their P series pistols than to their new entry into the "wunder9" segment of the market.

It is basically a updated Glock IMO, it looks like the crew at Ruger just copied it changing the things that many have wanted.
The one I went through was super rough, but shot well once cleaned up. It has a solid locking block that is held in by 3 pins and the fire control assembly in the rear is held with one pin, once these pins are removed you can pull out the internals in one piece. There is no trigger safety as it has an ambi manual safety. The locking block is solid and it has a metal insert in the rear of the frame for the slide rail. The fire control is Glock design, so basically the trigger sucks, but once you clean it up it is fine for a carry gun. The ergonomics were better for us than the Glock. It is a tiny bit thinner than a 1911 and it wont bite your hand if you have a high grip. It has an ambi mag release that is very much like the XD. It has metal mags that hold 17 rounds that are decent quality. The sights are a bit higher than usual, but it has an adjustable rear sight. It has a loaded chamber indicator. It also has a magazine disconnect so the gun will not fire without the magazine inserted. This can be removed in about 10 seconds. It has a massive extractor that really grabs the cases. It shot well, and was very quick pointing. Overall I think they could do a MUCH better job with the finishing of the internals, the disconnecter is crap, but over all I think it is a pretty decent update of a Glock. It is much thinner than most other similar autos, so I think it might catch on as carry gun for folks where grip size is an issue and are on a budget that want a lot of 9mm rounds. |

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm looking for something with a smaller grip than my xd40 for my wife to carry. Sounds like this might be the fit and the price as well. Our trainer recommended a small seven shot Sig Sauer but it was very pricey for such a small piece. |

I think it will be a good gun for smaller handed people, plus you get 10 more rounds
