Flea treatment

What is a good flee treatment out there to use, I just used the last tube of the gel you put on the dogs back, and I don't like that stuff, it's greasy, and for the next few days whatever he leans against will have a grease mark and it will smell like the treatment. I'm ready for a new product.

What we do at my company is spray heavy around all the baseboards in the house with a residual pesticide. Then we release a aerosol spray on all the floor and furniture throughout the house. The aerosol must have a IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) and a Adulticide in it to work properly on fleas. After that we spray the entire yard where the animals go and also around the perimeter of the house. Then its up to the customer to vacuum daily for two weeks. Dont forget to dump out your vacuum cleaner in the dumpster after each time.

The most effective treatment I've run across is just taking the dog into a groomer's and having the poor creature dipped. If the fleas have made it into your carpet or upholstery, you can rent one of those exterminator-style sprayers and go over the house, but I can't remember the solution you use inside--hopefully somebody else will have the specifics on that.

ETA: Yeah....like that ^^ guy.

I do not have a flea problem. I am just talking about normal flea preventative measures.

Frontline Plus is the only treatment that totally gets rid of the problem. I had a horrible problem due to 2 stray kittens I took in. Everyone got fleas and bad- including me. Powders and vacuuming didn't work. So I got Frontline Plus for all 4 animals, and in one week- all fleas dead and the cycle was totally broken.

I agree 100% .. Frontline or Advantage work very well. None of my pooches has ever had a flea or tick problem. I've picked ticks off my dogs but none had ever embedded. I once tried to save some money using a gel like flea and tick knock off and I ended up essentially giving my one dog insecticide poisoning. They give weight ranges and while my one lab is bigger she seemed to have no problems but my smaller lab started acting weird ... restless, drooling, drinking water like she hadn't had any in days, vomiting and the big tip off was not interested in food which is very strange for this particular dog. After about 24 hours it finally dawned on me and once I gave her a thorough bath and rinse she returned to normal in about 6-8 hours. So a word to the wise ... use the stuff vets carry and stay away from the stuff you can buy anywhere.

this will work if you frollow what they said. my sis is a vet and this is about what she told us to do when we had this problem. also ther is a pill the dog can take that will kill the fleas in like 6 hours then u use frontline. front line is the only one that works. trust me its worth the $$. also if you go to the groomers watch out because every time i take my dog to pets mart he comes home with fleas.

Agreed. Flea baths don't work. Frontline/Advantage is the best treatment available. Completely kills fleas/ticks for a month.

Basically you (or the vet) put a drop of it on the back of their neck. What is does is soak into their bodies, and it makes their bodies produce all the anti-flea/tick medication out of their pores. It's not an insecticide, what it does is it makes any fleas that bite into their skin automatically sterile, so they can't reproduce or lay eggs. Then within 24 hours or so they all die off. Never to be a problem as long as you stay up to date w/ treatments.

My girlfriend and I took in a stray cat who had fleas, we tried a bunch of stuff to get rid of them, and all it took was one trip to the vet to frontline her, and she's been flee free since then. It's even safe to give your dog/cat if they're pregnant. It rules pretty hard.

http://frontline.us.merial.com/home/index.asp Easily worth the $15 per dose, and on some breeds of dogs, one dose is good up to 3 months.
