Once you get accustomed to having to grip any pocket gun tightly, it becomes habit. I have found that if I shoot my P3AT with my finger pad on the trigger like I do my other guns, it starts to hurt, but if I use the first joint it's ok. (which also helps with the grip of the gun)

I consider a pocket gun nothing more than a weapon to allow me time to get to a bigger gun or get away. It's just not something you want to have in an all out firefight but it will save your ass in tight spots.

.380 vs .38? The 38 special has more powder than the .380. The .380 is a 9mm kurtz or a 9mm short. No one uses those terms because of the 9mm luger, parabellum etc.. it gets confusing. Go with the Kel-tec "new" version of the P3AT and you will be happy. Great advice in recent American Rifleman magazine, next time someone recomends the "perfect" carry gun, ask to see it, if it is in an appropriate area. If they say let me go to my vechicle or I'll bring it tomorrow don't buy it. You should have it with you all the time and not just in the car or close by, demand to see it.

I went with the Kahr PM9. Can easily carry IWB, or in a pocket holster or with the Kangaroo Carry Holster.

The .38 is a revolver round, has rim, and is much longer than a .380ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol). The .380ACP is an autoloader round and is the same diameter as a 9mm but is shorter hence 9mm kurz (short in German).

Good quality .38 Special ammo has all the ballistics you need for just about any self defense situation. And it's cheap!

Sorry, my error in assuming all read the AR.

#1 - S&W M642 Airweight Centennial
#1A S&W M638 Airweight Bodyguard
PM9 Kahr
KelTec P-3AT
Rohrbaugh R9

Of course, all of this info is up for debate; starting now and ending
in the year 2051!

Most often ".38" refers to .38 Special, which is a very large cartridge compared to a .380ACP. Although xHypex's pic puts mine to shame, here is a pic of just the two. .380ACP on the left, .38 SPL on the right.

I carry a Guardian in .32NAA and like it a lot, but only as a BUG or a gun to carry when I can't carry a gun.

Jim & xhypex, awesome pictures. Thanks. My wife and I went shooting last night (awesome) and we had a chance to handle that small Kel-Tec, a small Beretta, and a very, very light Tauras revolver. The guy pushed the revolver for my wife real hard.

Actually, the order of presentation went like this, Glock 26, Kal Tec pocket gun, Beretta pocket gun, Taurus revolver.

Anyway, the Kel-tec was so light. This may sound stupid, but I think the Kel-Tec was to light.I think the next one was a beretta ( not sure now), but it was the same pocket size but heavier. My wife liked the heavier pocket gun and the revolver. The heavier pocket gun had a stange flipdown barrel to load the first round. The Taurus revolver was hammerless and almost as light as the Kel-tec, like 13 oz.

So, we are still torn on the issue of a pocket gun, and now maybe a wheel gun.

A lot of people push those flyweight .38 revolvers for women. These people are either sadists or idiots. Unless the woman in question is an experienced shooter I strongly recommend AGAINST them. A steel-framed .38 is mild-mannered enough, but wrap a light alloy frame around the .38 and it turns into a savage, hand-punishing, beast.

Unless your wife likes hard kicking guns I can guarantee she will hate shooting that little Taurus.
