Get a rifle! Defensive Handguns used on task are for making deep holes that intersect critical organs or blood vessels-generally larger diameter holes are thought to be better.
Much information about the 357Sig is speculation and hearsay. From personal experience I can confirm ONLY three things: it has pistol ballistics-similar to other defensive handguns re: penetration and wound channel; it has a snappy quick recoil in almost all platforms; it's incredibly expensive compared to other calibers especially 9mm parabellum--it's alleged closest cousin.
BTW your worst case "on me" (aside from being very narrow visioned) skirts the inner limit of handgun defense--a knife (and knowledge of use of same) would be better.
