XD40SW Guide Rod Spring

Has anyone changed out their factory guide rod spring? If you change to a heavier spring (20 or 22#) will it help the recoil? Also, was it worth the money? Thanks for the help

putting a heavier spring and an aftermarket guide rod will change the recoil...

as its been explained to me..a lighter spring 16,17, etc...will make the gun "snap". some say this allows for a faster follow up shot

a heavier spring will create more "push" then "snap"...making it feel less recoil-ish (im sure thats not a word).

i personally took a 20 pound spring and cut it down until it felt right...which is what i suggest anyone do. buy several weight springs and test them until you find the one that allows you to handle the weapon best.

Changed both the rod and spring (tried #20 and #22). After several range trips and some very disappointing accuracy results, went back to the OEM #18 spring and captive guide rod set up. Accuracy back to normal, after market springs and guide rod in the range bag (as an emergency back up only). XD 4" .40 S&W.

Not sure of the reason, but I never could get used to the after market setup.
