Even more of a reason to get her to a range that has gun rentals to let her try as many as she wants, even different sized guns in the same caliber. I spent several months shopping/reading/researching when I bought my first semi-auto.

We went a slightly different route, but just as effective. Both my wife and daughter accompanied me to the range just to watch. I didn't have a .22 at the time, but an array of .38/357, 9mm. and .45 ACP.
They tried all of them. My wife liked the 4" model 10 Smith, while the daughter cottoned to the HS2K.
Both ladies shot very well with the instruction I gave them.

Time passed, and I am sure you have heard about the terrible home invasion in Chesire Conn that made national news. It hit as close to home as it can get. A couple of days later she said she was ready to try shooting again. This time I showed her some video's on you tube and some other sites, showing woman shooting, proper stance, and proper grip. It made the world of difference, this time she was informed and knew some shooting basics and what to expect. She had a great time and demanded a trip to the gun store. I tried pushing the XD-9 sc, but soon realized like others here have said. It's not up to you, let her pick the one that fits her. My girlfriend picked the g26 and loves it.
Well now comes the warning. She will become a gun addict. Hear my warning this precious girl of mine saw the SA website and is now in love with the 1911 loaded champion 4". http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=20
An F'n 1911 loaded.......
God I don't even have a 1911, hell I'm debating trading in my XD-9 for the XD45. So be prepared my friend for the spending will be deep. Get her informed and let her choose, and gain a great shooting buddy.
Oh also.
I will be damned if my girl gets a 1911 before I do.

good vids-http://www.springerprecision.com/video.asp
baa haa haaa too funny. Good thing is she can only shoot one gun at a time (very well) so let her have three guns ..... that means really atleast one gun for you that you label it as "hers". Your in much better company than guys who wifes/gf are anti's or gun weary. I wouldnt even consider marrying an anti.

Your sitting well, if you guys have some disposable income, you have nothing to worry about. She has good taste too. Keeper!

Buy her a reload machine for Xmas or aniversary and you might become a lengend in your own time

My wife could be considered 'anti' when we first got together, but she didn't mind my guns, and she came around quite nicely, she is not quite a gun nut yet, but she shoots and likes it.

As much as I would like my wife to go shoot with me, she doesn't seem interested.
I told her I can't leave a handgun out and available to her until she learns the basic safety issues of firearms.
Also until she shoots it first, so she will know what to expect if she has to use it.
She knows the bare safety basics from shooting the shotgun.

I've yet to get her to the range, hopefully one day.
She says, that is your little hobby and you need to have something to yourself.
What does that mean ladies?

Chances are, she will never need to defend herself at the house. but that is chances are.
I want her to be able to handle a handgun, or it stays in the safe.
I guess she thinks the 73 pound Ridgeback will protect her, which he does.

The shotgun is accessible to her and she has shot it before, didn't care for it, but did shoot it.

I'd love to buy her her own handgun, but lack of interest in safe handling prevents me from it.
I'd love for her to get her CHL, not that she would carry all the time, but option would be nice.
She does have temper though, I'm not sure if she should carry.
She isn't stupid and wouldn't shoot anyone for the wrong reason.
I think the class would put things into perspective for her.
She relies on the pepper spray I gave her.

But I love her and she is one of the best things that ever happened to me.
God certainly blessed me with her...................

It means that she is much more likely to want Ikebana stuff than a new AR or XD!! Bottom line she isn't interested in guns and it isn't gonna happen anytime soon. And maybe that is secretly why you love her so much... because she is different than you are!

I was sort of freaked initially by the whole gun thing - shopping for them at the store, going to the range - everything. When I first held a gun at the store and started contemplating buying one, I felt almost giddy - like WTF am I doing??!! I was entering a totally alien culture.

The first time at the range, I was shocked by the sound of the other guns around and the whole process - seeing all of the shells on the floor, interacting with the other people. I took it all very seriously at that point though, and I shot the gun that way.

The whole experience has been very interesting.
Same here, my nervousness about being seen in public around guns( gunstore, range, whatnot) is terrible. I felt totally out of place, still do. But the guys at the gun store are a really nice bunch, made me feel less nervous. However I had to work myself up to go again, today finally had it in me, and all I was doing was buying hollowpoints.

To me, guns are so manly and macho, just reeking of testosterone LOL, but also was taboo for so long, as my parents never had any, likely never will. I grew up taught to be scared of guns, or to dislike them. My mother won't even touch one, though she supports me 100%. My dad grew up around some guns, but he got weird somewhere along the line. I cannot get him to fire any of the ones I have here. He says he is afraid he will like it too much? Yes thats what he said. I guess he doesn't want to enjoy it then get all into guns and buy a bunch, spending all his money. LOL
