ASSuming that you didn't start this tread in order to get psychological advice about how to deal with your g.f., I'd recommend that you follow the advice of those recommending a .22. If the g.f. wants to carry, then a G19 or G26 would be my choice. My daughter had never fired anything but a .22 pistol, prior to my buying her a G26. She had no problem adapting to the G26 and carries it daily.

If you really don't like your g.f., follow the advice of the guy who recommended the Bersa!

Have you considered the Desert Eagle by Magnum Research in 50 Action Express? No this isn't a serious suggestion, but I did see a rather painful video on youtube awhile back of a fairly slight young woman firing one and taking the recoil in the nose.

Edit:
Yep, found it!

I'm a little surprised at that comment. While I no longer have a Glock 9, my recollection was that the "kick" was about the same as my XD 9. I sure think the kick of the P3AT was stronger the XD 9.

If she wants a gun and if she would like a recommendation about caliber, the principle is simple. She needs as much or more than you. Her need for self defense and incapacitation power exceeds yours since you are very likely better able to defend yourself in hand-to-hand combat by virtue of size and strength. So she MUST STOP the perp with the handgun.

Assuming this to be true, she needs the maximum firepower that she can handle. She must be able to darw, mount, aim, fire, re-aim, and fire while quickly hitting the target with accuracy. If she can handle a .45 she might try an XD-45 Compact or a Kahr PM-45. There are also compact models made by others such as the SA EMP, the Para Warthog, etc. If she can't handle a .45 go down one notch to a .40 and so on.

Don't start her with a low caliber firearm. All you are doing is to ill equip her for the task. Work down to the maximum she can reasonably handle.

You buy her flowers and let her decide if she's interested in a gun.
Both my wife and daughter came to me, when the time was right for them.

Or, if she gets the gun anyway, and carries it, it might be more likely used against her if she isn't willing to practice and learn to properly use it. Even worse.

Clear and concise, right to the point. Right on.

My wife did not mind shooting the XD9sc or the XD45c. She said she felt the recoil was about the same. Having less gun in the 9mm probably put the felt recoil to a person new to guns up there with the bigger .45 acp gun.

She felt the Kel-tec was harsher to shoot and that's what I said in different words, so I guess I'm confused on what you thought I said.

This is good, too. Like I said, basically get her the most powerful cartridge she can shoot quickly and accurately.

Any news on what she wants the gun for? Or even if she wants the gun? That would help with the type of suggestions you get.

If she is just looking for a plinking gun, as mentioned, you can't beat the .22 for learning good shooting skills.

What kind of a gun is "flowers?" Who makes it? What caliber(s) is it chambered for?
