So glad I read this thread, bigun. I'll tell you why.

One of my credit cards has also been compromised recently. The fkg thief tried to purchase a couple thousand dollars worth of stuff; my credit card company blocked the purchase, fortunately.

It happened shortly after my last billing cycle. I do not use that card a whole lot, and there were only three purchases on the last billing cycle before my card was compromised; GTS being one of them. The other two are from the major online shopping sites. Now with your post I believe I may have found where the security breach stems from.

My wife ordered something from an internet site without security... once... took months to clean up our credit rating!

Now, we look for that little lock sign in the corner everytime.

Good Times.

Too bad, I like GTS. They have pretty good selections. But I doubt I will buy from them again before they improve their online security.

same happened to me recently, they got my info from a site that sells hunting products.

They got me for $1400 over night. I got it all back.

They tried to open a bunch of advertising accounts on Yahoo.

I called Yahoo and they got my $ back to me real fast.

My Citibank credit card has a nice extra that I use from time to time. Either via their website or from a downloaded program you can generate a Virtual Account Number that is only good at one site and will only last 2 months. Its comforting to have when you want to order something but don't totally trust the site.

Secure server / SSL certificate = more cost

More cost = less profit

Some merchants put their profits well before your security. Pick and choose who you do business with online very carefully.

SSL??? Whats that ??

Actually, an SSL means nothing (many SSL companies, BIG companies, have lost credit card data to hackers).

The SSL only means that the person who owns the domain is who they say they are, that's all it means, nothing, zero else.

It is how they handle server security and how they handle/process credit card information etc. Many, many online stores still send someone in the company an e-mail that has all the credit card info on it. Many of them store and/or send the 3 digit security number on the back somewhere that is not appropriate. Those are both considered violations of Internet credit card security. The credit card companies do not allow you to do either, but many still do.
