(PV) Book About Stalin
I just happened to see this while flipping through Newsweek, and I thought the part about Stalin's childhood was kind of interesting.

Sounds interesting. I read a biography of Peter the Great about a year ago that was fantastic....I pity the Russian people, who, while being some of the strongest and most resilient folks on the face of the earth, have been nonetheless cursed with some of the most catastrophic leadership of the industrialized world, particularly during the Bolshevik years and through much of the 20th century. There were some bloody czars, but it took communism to expand state-sanctioned murder to a whole new level.

i have done some reading and watched some bios on stalin and kruschev. Stalin was a classic paranoid, and he would throw drinking parties at his mansion, heads of departments, military leaders etc were all invited. Stalin would get them totally shat faced, then coax them into talking bad about him. Even with leading questions bordering on entrapment, lol he would really really be sneaky about it, and if they fell for it, they were killed.
Interestingly nikita kruschev was illiterate, or atleast functionally illiterate. Blows my mind that up to 1964 and illiterate ran a world power. Mind blowing. |
